World of Warcraft Upgrades and Item Upgrading
Upgrades can boost the value of certain numeric stats on armor, weapons and rings. They also boost extra bonuses like PvE damage and crit chance.
For instance a weapon that has the upgrade template ending in % will suffer an attack damage of 3% each time it is upgraded (relative to its previous value).
The cost of upgrading an item is determined by the item's level. The cost increases as the item's level rises.
Components
Upgrade components are items that can be slotted into armor, weapons, and trinkets to provide a stat bonus or extra effect when they're used. They can be obtained through making crafts, buying from vendors or trading with other players, or looting. Certain upgrades also come with specific cosmetic effects.
Upgrade components can be placed in equipment that has a slot for them; the item must be at least upgraded to the blue level to allow a component to be applied. In contrast to other mods components can only be used one time; they cannot be applied multiple times or replaced by new upgrades. Infusions and Enrichments are a kind of upgrade component used to upgrade non-amulet legendary or ascending equipment, as other items that are not ascended. Enrichments and Infusions can be obtained by salvaging equipment from the ascended state or completing a mission in the Prophecies, Factions, and Nightfall campaigns.
An upgrade can be prefixed or a suffix, modifying the name of the item to which it is used (for examplethe 'Canthan Armor Insignia" becomes Canthan Armor of Minor Vigor). Certain upgrades boost an item's Mark Level or Rarity, allowing players to make stronger versions of the equipment with fewer Upgrade Crystals than are required to reach the same upgrade level through normal methods.
